Teething.....The Tooth Fairy's evil twin is the Teething Fairy!

I'm a lucky mum, i have very chill easy going baby boy, well so i thought......  the Tooth Fairy decided to visit us at about 4 months. The lead up to the teeth breaking through was so awful. You always ask yourself what can you do? Some days i just wish i could take the pain away from him.

Every symptom a child can get with teething it seems like my little man gets!!!

  • Drooling +++++, I go through at least 15 bibs a day
  • Grabbing ears - Constantly :(
  • Rubbing his face
  • Turning away from food
  • Mood swings from a happy little boy to an irritable little monster
  • Swollen red gums
  • The need to bite / chew / suck on everything thats not tied down

The first 2 popped out together because Brandon doesn't do things by halves! His generally a very happy smiling baby! But he really does struggle when his teething. Its even effected his sleeping, his struggled with night terrors because of the teething which just breaks my heart!

The only things that seem to help with the pain of teething are:
  • Panadol
  • Nurofen
  • Sophie
  • Bonjela
  • Weleda teething powder (baby crack)
  • teething rusk sticks
I don't really like using drugs so i try and use the teething powder and bonjela first, and if that doesn't work i move on to panadol.
His top teeth seem to be alot worse than the bottom with so much more drooling some days i go through over 15 bibs a day let me tell you that's alot of washing!!!!

Ive been waiting, anxiously.... better word would be patiently, for those little suckers of top teeth to pop through. It seems like its taking a life time. But lets face it, If anyone knows my husband, he has beautiful "big" top teeth... so little Brandon is doomed with those. Those big chompers! We even photo shopped his teeth onto our 20 week scan....yes that actually happened!

When the erratic waking started I started to get frustrated. There is one thing they always say "Don't wake a sleeping baby" so whoever invented "teething" really hit me with a double wammy.
I had no idea how bad teathing was going to actually be. Waking up two to three times a night I can deal with, as long as he eventually goes back to sleep, but the constant restlessness from little Bman makes the falling to sleep harder than I thought.

Its almost a constant screaming, crying, tantrum-throwing-in-cot general sobbing. I find myself having to rock him to sleep, thats right rocking back and forth, sometimes on my feet, sometimes in the chair, let me tell you its getting old really fast. One plus side to all of this rocking is my fitbit shows those movements as "steps" so it counts to my daily fitness... thats a good thing right? 20 million steps a day?

I started with one mummy rule. I didnt want to rock my baby to sleep everynight. I dont mind doing it occasionally, but I didnt want him getting used to that rocking feeling and become dependent on it to fall asleep, mostly for my sanity but also his. So far so good, but I feel like with this weeks "burst of teething", rocking has become the new norm.

This weeks diet consists of coffee, coffee and more coffee just to get through the teething days! Before we return back to our non bipolar baby who actually sleeps for more than 4 hours at a time!
